Bovilla and Gamti Mountain hiking day trip from Tirana or Durres

The hike to Gamti Mountain is approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) one way, taking about 40 minutes to 2–3 hours depending on fitness levels. The trail includes steep sections and metal stairs along cliff edges, requiring a good head for heights and moderate physical fitness.

The entire tour lasts between 6 to 7 hours, including transportation, hiking, and rest stops. ​

While the hike is of moderate difficulty, it’s not recommended for individuals with back problems, heart conditions, or for pregnant travelers. Children and seniors should be in good physical condition to participate.

Essential items include sturdy hiking shoes, water (at least 1.5 liters), sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and a light jacket. Snacks are advisable, as lunch is not included.

Swimming in Bovilla Lake is prohibited by law. However, some tours may include a stop at a nearby canyon where swimming is permitted.

Most tours offer hotel pickup in Tirana or have designated meeting points. Transportation is typically provided via car, van, or SUV, depending on group size.

Some tours may charge a small fee (around €1) for access to the Gamti Mountain trail. Tips for guides and drivers are not included but are customary in Albania.

Hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of Bovilla Lake’s turquoise waters, the surrounding mountains, and lush Albanian countryside. The trail also offers opportunities to observe local flora and fauna.
